Mummified puppy found in Egyptian tomb

2,300-year-old pup thought to be one of world’s rarest mummified animals.

Having been to Egypt myself and studied the Ancient Near East at length, I was not surprised that we finally have found a perfectly preserved mummy of a dog. “A small mummified body was revealed thru a CT Scan, to be “that of a young terrier-type dog.” The puppy was found entombed with his Egyptian owner, known as “Hapi-Men” who had his dog “Hapi-puppy” buried at his feet with all his other worldly possessions believing everything with him would join him in his ‘next life,’ including his beloved pet. Egyptians have been known to mummify a whole list of animals but this finding backs up the scores of hieroglyphics that line the Nile temple walls of man and dog together.(full article)
