Remember the canines at Dog Mountain in Vermont
Since its opening in 2000, more than 100,000 pet owners have visited the chapel and paid their respects to the dogs (and a few cats) that were important in their lives.
Ragazzi News found a story about an artist from Vermont named Stephen Huneck, ‘whose dog paintings and sculptures are showcased in the Smithsonian Institution, and the Dog Museum of America,’ among others. He conceived the idea of building a chapel for dogs after a near-death experience that left him in a coma for nearly two months. He built it and people just continue to visit – by the thousands, posting notes about their beloved animals inside. Usually it’s just a picture on a hand written note that pays tribute. Outside Huneck has grass abundant so people can sit, ponder, and perhaps celebrate a new lovable pet by letting it run on the grounds at their feet.(full article)
